At St Paul's Park in Bristol where Places for People manages 300 homes, the first
Green Spaces project has been completed. The award-winning park has seen an investment
of £350,000 plus match funding of £134,150 to provide a range of facilities including a
play area for young children and a dedicated area for teenagers with basketball and
skateboard facilities as well as a newly-installed climbing wall.
The park also has attractive planted areas with large, curved seating steps, providing a
space to relax and play. A unique event space with ground anchor points has also been created
especially for circus performances and training in partnership with Circomedia, a local
circus and theatre performance group.
Following the Park's opening last year, the Bristol Do Cultural Olympiad event attracted
over 9,000 people for a programme of social, family and community celebration events.
Recently, local volunteers have been recruited to help add some variety to the planting areas.
And sculptor, Olaf Breuning, has been working with the community to create some larger than
life figures in the Park.
St Paul's Park was awarded the Best Urban Green Space by the Local Government News Street
Design Awards and, more recently, it won a prestigious Green Flag Award, the national
standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.
